The special 6 Ultra features the same unique Volume and Tone controls as the original Special 6, the same footswitchable Boost, High/Low Power switch, and a similarly mod-friendly eyelet board. In addition, the Special 6 Ultra features a unique multi-position Depth control that fine-tunes the low-frequency depth; this feature allows you to carefully voice the amp's low-end to perfectly suit a wide range of guitars, pickups, speakers, and musical styles. VHT AV-SP-6HU Special 6 Ultra Amplifier Head Review

I purchased this amp a few months ago and have wrtten reviews on several other sites in an effort to make others aware of the incredible value this amp brings to the table.

Switchable hi/low watt modes, built in attenuator, 3 channels (essentially) ability to swap out different tubes, effects loop, 4-8-16 ohm speakers out (dual speaker outs).

Along with this comes the tone shaping ability. 1 tone knob but a "depth" switch and texture to fatten up the low end or roll off the highs. Under the hood they have placed a lot of work into the depth control and it really does provide a very wide palette to work with.

This amp is hand wired and there is becoming an active mod community. This was part of what was in mind with the design of the amp.

I own 11 amps and since this one arrived I have not even turned any of the others on. Even went as far as stacking them in the closet because they were taking up space.

Mine is running a KT88 power tube and a pair of NOS 12AT7 (not 12ax7). The 12AT7s run at about 80 of the gain of 12AX7s but the NOS jan phillips you can find all over for about 10 bucks provide a beautiful crystal clear high end and the KT88s fill out the bottom.

Have not had to deal with VHT customer service, however I did receive one with bad solder joints and a blown cap that I had to return. Hopefully I wont have to deal with VHT customer service.

Otherwise I would highly recommend this amp. Its not ultra high gain, but toss and mt2 in front of you want that.
