It's difficult to tell without tearing it apart, but it feels like this case has a styrofoam core that is covered in tough, nylon fabric and then nicely lined. My cello player found it too difficult to get the instrument in and out of the case. This was mostly due to the zipper which was balky and seemed too small for the size of the case. Then, getting the instrument fitted into the case--which should be a no-brainer--also proved to be awkward. It is nice-looking, and customer service was helpful.
