Lanikai is proud to introduce their new Exotic Ukuleles. Constructed with solid Zebrawood or solid Monkey Pod these ukuleles produce a fresh tone unique to each woods distinct resonance capabilities. Unadorned by synthetic enhancements, this series captures the pure essence and beauty of the natural world. The Exotic series features a solid top back and sides, slotted headstock, Grover gold plated tuning machines, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, maple and rosewood skunk stripe and an ovangkol neck. A custom wide bone nut was used to increase the string spacing, making these ukuleles more comfortable for guitarists who are expanding their sonic palette with the ukulele. All cutaway models feature the new Fishman Sonicore ukulele preamp and Sonitone pickup. With volume and tone controls mounted in the sound hole these ukuleles are truly performance driven instruments.

There are very few reviews of this uke, so I thought I'd let ya know what I received. First off, I've been playing and performing guitar for over 30yrs. now and Uke seriously for the past 3 yrs., so I know my way around quality and affordability in instruments. I took a chance on this uke because of- a)the price, and b) the looks. With anything price slashed this low, the assumption is there are blemishes or defects of some kind, and without a test drive, you are taking a chance. That being said, it boils down to what you as a musician are willing to live with for a huge savings:) The one I received was indeed awesome eye candy solid wood grain, intonation spot on, no cracks or breaks, no rough spots or sharp frets, and a nice warm yet crisp tone:) Did have a couple of minor dings, but as a player, they were truly nothing compared to the savings, tone, playability and looks!:) No problem carting her around everywhere I go for fear of scratching her pristine looks, when she's truly meant like all instruments to be played!:) The only problems are, the packaging is terrible, just thin layer of bubble wrap around instrument, which may or may not have contributed to minor dings. Gifted this Ukulele to a family member who desperately needed a quality uke:) He wasn't disappointed in the least bit needless to say:) Lanikai really should have provided a nice case for such nice ukes! But still, until or unless you can afford one of the handmade "K" ukes from Hawaii, these slotted headstock solid wood Lanikai's are really really nice:) Just hope for the best and get yourself a case:) Aloha
