Spector Basses Legend Series LG4CLSBCLH 4-Strings Bass Guitar, Left Handed , Black Cherry Review

I bought this guitar through Adirondack Guitar for $529 and free shipping, Thanks Dennis!

I was looking to upgrade from a lesser priced jazz bass and couldn't be happier. I was looking at a few Schecter models along with a Fender MIM. As a lefty, I feel Fender has been unfair to lefties in their lineup for a long time but that is a different subject.

I like all the tones I am able to get from this bass. The pickups are SSD's, very similar to EMG's made for this line of Spector. The mohogany quilt top is beautiful as is the craftsmanshipo of the bass. This bass is made in Korea, The Legend series are some very nice basses at this price point. The knobs and tuners on the bass are rock solid and it has been a pleasure to own.

The pickups are hot, there is so much bass in the neck pickup that it took me awhile to find just the right amount of bass for my sound using my amp EQ and the bass knob. There is no master volume knob, each pickup has it's own volume control, the top knobs control the volume. The bottom knobs control the bass and treble. Adjusting the bass and treble gets you any sounds from deep low 'drop D' sounds to P Bass sounds and the tone is very tight with both pickups dimed. I strung my Spector with DR High Beams and usually leave the neck pickup dimed and bridge pickup at noon with the treble at 9 '0clock for some solid thumping with the steel strings. The pickups are passive and the preamp is active, there is a lot of headroom and the Spector sounds as good as some active basses I have heard.

I have been playing bass for awhile and after owning this sweet bass only wish for a mid control knob, I have no problem using the amp EQ, but have to change it when switching basses. I have also thought of upgrading the pickups to EMG's for a few hundred dollars but as time goes by, this bass has it's own character and I have it sorted out to where I want it that new pups wouldn't be necessary.

Other bassists say the Lengends are the gateway drug to the high end Spectors and I see that now after almost a year with this bass. Spector is a quality brand and the high end basses definately have their own mystique. At this price point, the Spector is my choice for the most bang for the buck along with the Schecter Stiletto line, I bought the Spector without playing one and every time I play it at a show, I am glad I did.

I own other basses for different sounds, but this is my 'go to' bass mostly for the powerful tone and rosewood fretboard. The Body design also makes the bass super easy to play. I would definately suggest the Legend 4 to a new or veteran player looking for quality and powerful tone for under a grand. Maybe some day I will be able to afford a ReBop or Euro 5, until then, the Spector Legend is a keeper.
