I've owned about every brand of drum kit made over the last 30 or 40 years. I'm 58 and have owned Ludwig vintage, Gretsch Round Badge, Gretsch Catalina Jazz, Slingerland, Rogers, Tama, Yamaha, you name it....I've owned it or still own it.

For the money I don't think you can find a better kit for the money. The kit does come with Asian made heads, which you will need to replace, but MOST kits come with inferior heads, or we will replace heads with our favorites anyway. The shells on this kit are very rigid and the bearing edges are true and very well polished. The hardware, lugs and all other metal parts are all really nice for the money, but you may prefer the 2.3 mm rims...it's a personal thing. I think they are fine. The wrap is very well affixed to the shells and is a nice wrap. No corners cut here.. I would have liked the Galaxy Black Sparkle, but the Silver is beautiful, as I would think the red is. There are 8 lugs per side on the bass drum and 6 lugs (I think) on all the other drums...no 5 lug odd balls here.. The bass spurs are very substantial and will hold the bass in place. There is no need for a riser on the bass. I wish there had been a pedal included, but you can get the matching Sonor SP473 for about 45 bucks, and from what I understand it is a very good pedal, and better than the 200 series pedal, but we shall see. I am going to order one.

If you are on the fence about an inexpensive drum set, just buy this one. I don't think you are going to find a better set of drums for under 400 dollars shipped to your house. And I would buy tem NOW, cause with the economy and the way companies change their series of product, this little kit could become a thing of the past at some point, or they may raise the price by a hundred dollars or more, cause they would still be a value at 500 bucks. I am happy there is no hardware included with the kit, cause most of us either have hardware, or would want to pick our own anyway.

This kit will replace the Gretsch Catalina Jazz kit I have been using to play jobs. I won't worry as much about damaging a kit that only cost half what the Gretsch cost...although I love the Catalina kit. I also won't be using my vintage Ludwig kit as much. It is a 20" bass, 12" rack tom and 14" floor tom. I really don't want the risk associated with losing or damaging this set, as replacing it would probably be about two grand.

Anyway, to make the story shorter, buy this kit and don't look back. Just understand what you are buying. It is not a top of the line kit costing several thousand dollars. You will have to replace the heads, and will have to have a bass pedal, snare stand, hi-hat stand, and cymbal stands, in addition to your own cymbals. Properly set up, I'd love to hear them in a studio beside ANY other kit. I'll bet you can't tell the difference...
