Fender American Standard Telecaster, Maple Fretboard - Crimson Red Transparent Review

I'm not a professional musician. I don't play gigs or shows. I'm a software engineer who once upon a time could play a little and will likely only ever play as a hobby. I like (and would like to learn to play) various types of music from country to blues to rock.

This is very likely all the guitar I'll ever need. It came, as advertised, in the SKB hard-shell case, in a Fender packed box. The finish work is superb. I originally was looking at the American Special, but a few friends talked me into the American Standard for the hand-rolled neck and individual saddles. I'm glad they did. The neck is sooo smooth.

The guitar was almost perfectly set up as it arrived. I need to make a few minor action height and intonation adjustments, but it's not so bad that you immediately think, "Ugh, that sounds awful." when you hear it.

The pickups are _very_ quiet. I get almost no buzz even on the bridge-only and neck-only selector switch positions, played through a Fender Vibro Champ XD.

The body is made from 2 pieces of ash that are so closely book-matched as to require a very careful look to find the seam. The body finish as it arrived was almost flawless--a couple of minor smudges but no scratches. The sunburst is absolutely beautiful.

It has a typical thin twang on the bridge pickup to a fuller, richer sound on the neck. The combined position is a perfect blend of the two. Even with my _very_ limited skill I can get pretty much any range of sound I want out of it. It sounds great, much more so than I do, but that is the point. Other electric guitars I've owned have had various limitations that made me wish I had a better guitar. This one, not so much. Given my current lack of skill, and the fact that I'll likely only ever play in my house, this is all the guitar I'm likely to ever need.
