First of all, this thin body acoustic electric is a great guitar. It plays very well, has a good full sound. I was sure I wanted to buy this guitar, but there are different deals available which offer the guitar with a bunch of accessories. I checked various online and local shops but nothing came close to the price that GearTree was offering. The hardshell case is actually a very high quality one. On its own it sells for about $100. This itself makes it a good deal. The guitar stand is the cherry on top.

GearTree shipped all 3 items packed properly. The guitar was packed inside the case which itself was packaged in the shipping box. This ensured the safety of the guitar. I was a bit unsure about how quickly they would ship the items, but it ended up arriving a few days ahead of the estimated delivery time!

Overall I'm very happy with the guitar, stand, case and GearTree!

Yamaha YSL354 Trombone Review

Excellent trombone. Even though what I got for my son is second hand. The previous buyer took good care of it and the quality of YSL-354 Trombone is just amazing.

Before I bought this one, I bought a Stagg Lacquer Plated Slide Tenor Trombone with brand name SKY which cost about $200. (Please avoid it at all cost.) It looks great at first but the inside of slide rust quickly and my son had a very difficult time with it for two years. Finally my son entered middle school and really wanted a better one. His band director e-mailed me his advice:

"The slide not sticking is the most important quality. If the curved-part of the Trombone slide is resting on the floor, and you pick up the rest of the trombone (straight up) then the outer slide (the part resting on the floor) will stay on the floor and the inner slide will lift straight up (and out if you pull too far) from the outer slide. If the outer slide 'catches,' then when you lift, the whole trombone (inner and outer slide) will lift up off the floor."

My son's old trombone "catches", big time. Then I found Yamaha USL-354, e-mailed the band director's advice to the seller and confirmed that this trombone would work just like the band director requested. Got the trombone. No problem ever since. Wish I knew the trick two years ago.

Zildjian K Custom 22-Inch Dark Ride Cymbal Review

I recently purchased this cymbal after extensive searching, trying various K Custom models, and finally settling on this particular one.

First, a few caveats when buying a K Custom - all of these cymbals are hand hammered and each has a distinct, unique personality and sound. For example, when I listened to the sound sample on Zildjian's site (paste the ASIN number, B00006AZMI, into the search box, select All Products and click GO), the sound is a bit different from the actual cymbal I received. Second, if you are seeking cymbals that are cutting or project, the K Custom series is not for you.

Zildjian describes this cymbal as dark and warm with trashy crash qualities. Mine roughly fits that description, but can also be airy and washy, with over- and under-tones, depending on how you play it. I've even managed to get a bit of a shimmer from it with a stick technique that uses about a third of the stick surface when riding the cymbal. Moreover, while Zildjian's sound sample did impart a 'trashy crash', the cymbal I have does not have this quality in a pronounced way. It does manage to combine articulation with a lot of sustain (I know that sounds odd, but it's true.)

I said that this cymbal does not cut or project - you can literally carry on a normal conversation a foot away when riding this cymbal. The crash washes, but does not project. Horrible for rock, but perfect for acoustic jazz, and that is where this cymbal excells.

BINA No. 23B Harmonium - Folding - 9 Stops - Coupler Function - Special Reeds (PDI-AGH) Review

I bought my Bina 23B harmonium elsewhere, but would like to comment on the insturment in general. It has a beautiful rich sound.I very seldom use the drones, as most of the songs I play are not in those keys, but you do have the option to create different tones by adjusting the different stops so that is a nice feature. I play mine every day and would not be without it!
